The Law Offices of Douglas Slain
1965 - 1970
After a very academic start at the University of Chicago (PhD candidate in intellectual history with Saul Bellow and Hannah Arendt), I ended up at Stanford Law School. I started law practice as a real estate securities specialist at Pillsbury, Madison & Sutro in San Francisco. I left that practice to pioneer a new way for California redevelopment agencies to obtain SBA-guaranteed loans as a real estate development consultant. Later I founded Litigation Research Group, which over the years published a number of authoritative national law reporting services, all eventually acquired by McGraw-Hill, Inc, and now owned by Thomson Ltd. Since then I have practiced criminal defense law; see thedefenselawyer.com. I also represent investors in private placements who have been defrauded. See regDiaw.com and regDconsumersreport.com.
