Ramesh K. Vaidyanathan is a Partner with Advaya Legal, a broad based commercial law firm based out of Mumbai, India.
Ramesh began his career in private practice in a large law firm as a general corporate lawyer specializing on all aspects of business law. He advised on a host of issues pertaining to doing business in India including structuring of foreign investments into India. Ramesh was actively involved in some power projects right from the stage of negotiation of power purchase agreements and project agreements to the financial closure.
When India's busiest airports in Delhi and Mumbai were privatised in 2006, GVK Group was selected to manage the prestigious Mumbai Airport development and modernisation project, rated by many as one of the most challenging infrastructure projects in the world. This presented Ramesh an exciting opportunity to move in-house as the General Counsel of Mumbai International Airport Limited and set up the entire legal function of the company from scratch.
In his additional role as the GVK Group Counsel, Ramesh was also involved in power, oil & gas, mining, port, road and other infrastructure projects. Significantly, Ramesh was closely involved in GVK's acquisition of a controlling stake in Bangalore Airport, which made the Group the biggest player in the airport sector in India.
Ramesh has been a brand ambassador of sorts for India and has spoken at various international fora on diverse topics. He is active in international organisations such as the International Bar Association, Inter Pacific Bar Association and the International Young Lawyers Association (AIJA), and functioned in the past as the National Representative of AIJA for India.
