Recent revelations that this tiny island nation has been cooperating with US authorities should not worry Americans and others who choose the Isle of Man as their asset protection haven. The government has signalled it will not tolerate Isle of Man trusts being used to dodge taxes. Other forms of asset protection are still recognized and virgorously enforced by Manx courts.

Employment discrimination claims continue to be filed at record levels with the EEOC and state anti-discrimination agencies. Most all types of claims are up with particular large increases in age discrimination and pregnancy claims. Recently fired workers, unable to find new jobs, have little to lose in filing claims.

Although Florida and a select few states have powerful homestead laws that protect one's home against creditors, those laws do not always work if fraud or a fraudulent conveyance was involved. Like all aspects of asset protection, timing is everything.

Brief discussion on fraudulent conveyances. Many creditors give up far too easily - a transfer of property for less than full value can be undone. If you or a client are owed money, don't give up just because the debtor doesn't own any assets.
