Prior to coming to the practice of law, I had a career in enterprise software.  I had the pleasure of running operations for several years for a successful NASDAQ company.  In my years of experience as COO, I was personally involved with all kinds of legal issues.  It was perhaps this exposure to the law that peaked my interest in law to the point of my committing to going to law school in my late 40s.  Picking up a specialization in intellectual property seemed natural with my software development background, so I pursued and achieved the certificate in intellectual property offered by Whittier Law School.  After passing the California bar exam, I ventured north to Oregon and passed the bar there as well before relocating to Lane County, Oregon in Florence.  From this small town of nearly 10,000 people, pursuing a specialization in intellectual property is not a wise business choice, so my focus now is to become an extreme generalist.
