Evan Appel joined Chorey, Taylor & Feil in January 2009 and brings a business understanding of the sports and entertainment industries to his law practice. Evan’s practice with the firm continues to focus upon representing a wide range of sports and entertainment properties in revenue-generating opportunities and transactions. He regularly works with college athletic departments, college conferences, professional sports teams and leagues and sports event organizers on a wide range of transactions. In his work with collegiate properties, Evan has advised on and negotiated a wide range of transactions and opportunities, including those involving licensing of multi-media rights as well as broadcast (television and radio), Internet, title sponsor and other marketing rights and sponsorship transactions, and has represented event organizers on contractual and business matters related to their events. In his work with professional sports and entertainment concerns, he has advised on and negotiated a variety of transactions, including title and other sponsorships, sponsorship sales agency agreements, television and radio agreements, event agreements, and consulting and employment agreements.

Evan began his legal career in 1984 with Troutman, Sanders LLP firm in Atlanta, where he practiced for three years before joining Long Aldridge & Norman (now McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP) in 1987. He practiced with McKenna Long & Aldridge for fifteen and one-half years, first as an associate and the last eleven years as a partner. At the McKenna firm, Evan co-founded the Sports & Entertainment practice in 1996 and principally represented sports and entertainment properties in revenue-generating opportunities and transactions. Evan represented local bidding and organizing committees which were successful in being awarded high profile national sports events for Atlanta, including the Super Bowl and the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Final Fours. Once the events were awarded, he worked on behalf of the local organizing committees with the National Football League and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (as well as numerous business concerns in the Atlanta community) to assist with the presentation of the events. Among other matters on which he worked as a partner at McKenna, Evan also worked with clients on arena and stadium financing strategies and plans.

Evan left McKenna in 2003 to join an Atlanta-based sports and entertainment agency in a business capacity. In that role, he consulted with a wide variety of clients in the sports and entertainment industries. He returned to private law practice in February 2005, joining several of his former Long Aldridge & Norman colleagues in Click & Null, P.C. Evan practiced with Click & Null in an Of Counsel capacity, where his practice continued in the sports and entertainment industries.

Evan is a frequent speaker on sports law and marketing issues. Evan has spoken on such topics at annual national conferences presented by the Sports Lawyers Association, the National Association of College and University Attorneys, and the Promotion Marketing Association, as well as at local, state and American Bar Association-sponsored seminars. Before law school, Evan worked in radio and television.

Evan is a 1980 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a 1984 graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law. He is a member of the State Bar of Georgia, the National Association of College and University Attorneys, and the Sports Lawyers Association, among other professional affiliations.
