 James K. (Jimmy) Wetzel, is a native of Biloxi, Mississippi and the principal owner of  Wetzel Law Firm.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1976.  He received his law degree from the Mississippi College School of Law in 1979.  Following his graduation, he served as a law clerk in the Mississippi Supreme Court for Chief Justice Harry G. Walker.  As part of Mr. Wetzel’s law practice, he served as City Attorney for the City of Gulfport from 1985 until 1989.  Mr. Wetzel previously served on the Court Liaison,  Judicial Administration Committee and the President-Elect Nominating Committee for the Mississippi State Bar.  Mr. Wetzel also serves as General Counsel for the Gulf Coast Community Federal Credit Union. Mr. Wetzel is a member of the Mississippi Trial Lawyers Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Bar Association.  Mr. Wetzel is licensed to practice before the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.  He has been a speaker at numerous seminars on personal injury practice, worker’s compensation, products liability,  always from the injured party’s perspective.

Mr. Wetzel is an active trial litigator with thirty-seven (37) years of active trial and appellate experience, primarily in the state and federal courts in Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama.  Mr. Wetzel also actively litigates cases before the Mississippi Workers’ Compensation Commission, the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Commission, Social Security Administration and other federal and state administrative agencies.  Mr. Wetzel has concentrated his practice in civil litigation, always from the perspective of representing persons who have been wrongfully injured.  Mr. Wetzel has tried hundreds of cases from many different areas of the law, including medical mal-practice, product liability, premises liability, construction, maritime injuries, automobile and professional liability.

Mr. Wetzel has been named one of the top 100 trial lawyers in the State of Mississippi by the National Trial Lawyers Association and has been named top 100 litigation lawyers in the State of Mississippi for the year 2016 by the American Society of Legal Advocates.  Mr. Wetzel has been recently recognized for 2015 as one of the top lawyers by the global directory of Who’s Who.  Mr. Wetzel was also recognized in 2015 as a Mid-South Super Lawyer by Super Lawyers Magazine, an honor limited to no more than 5% of the attorneys within Mississippi.
