Michelle Murtha is a Managing Member of MURTHA & MURTHA, PLLC, and heads the firm’s Intellectual Property, Civil Rights and Constitutional Law divisions.

She has successfully represented many clients in copyright matters in federal courts.  Michelle Murtha’s knowledge and expertise, particularly in the complex area of copyright infringement, has earned her a reputation for being a dedicated and skilled copyright attorney.  At MURTHA & MURTHA, PLLC, she represents clients in all areas of copyright law, but is renowned for being a passionate advocate of photographer’s rights.

Michelle Murtha’s legal expertise also extends to the area of Constitutional Law, in which she is dedicated to protecting parties whose constitutional rights have been violated. She litigates issues involving the infringement of constitutional rights in federal court, including by bringing claims under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 against state officers, governmental officials, municipalities and their employees for the depravation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured by the Constitution of the United States.

Michelle Murtha earned a Bachelor of Music Degree in Professional Music from Berklee College of Music prior to beginning her career in the Business and Legal Affairs Department at Sony Music. She attended Hofstra University School of Law on an academic scholarship, where she earned her Juris Doctor Degree. After working as a bank attorney for several years with a large real estate firm, Ms. Murtha joined a large litigation firm as a trial associate, specializing in No-Fault litigation and personal injury defense, where she tried hundreds of cases, representing commercial clients, including major insurance companies in both state and federal court.

Michelle Murtha routinely lectures on Photographers’ Rights and Copyright matters to photographers groups in New York.  She has vast expertise in litigating cases in both trial courts and appellate courts, and at MURTHA & MURTHA, PLLC, she applies her knowledge and experience to providing clients with the highest level of counseling and representation.

Michelle Murtha is admitted to practice law in all the Courts of the State of New York, as well as the United States District Court for both the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.
